The William Crooks - 1861


The William Crooks, a 4-4-0 steam locomotive with 86-inch drivers was designed by William Buchanan and built at the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. It carried Abraham Lincoln to his first inauguration in February 1861, in the coach shown on Photo 185. (below-right)


According to the Railroads On Parade program, this photo is from act 3, scene 2: Lincoln prepares to ride the train from upstate New York to Washington for his inauguration.
