House #2 - The House of Plywood
House # 2 - The House of Plywood

This four-room (and one bath) house was primarily designed for a married couple with one child. To meet this requirement there are two bedrooms, an ample-sized living room, and a well planned kitchen and utility room. Features of the plan include an attractive, half-round dining alcove, and a spacious enclosed porch. The architect states that this house can be built in the New York area for about $4,000 to $5,000.

This is called The House of Plywood because Douglas Fir Plywood has been used for the facing of exterior walls, wall and roof sheathing, interior wall finishes (with the exception of one bedroom which is in wallpaper over plywood), and subflooring throughout.

Major sponsors are listed on the front cover and full details as to products used in this house are given in following paragraphs. Readers are advised to consult these manufacturers for names of local distributors and any other desired information. This is one of the five GE All Electric Homes shown in the Town of Tomorrow. All lighting is planned according to standards of the National Better Light-Better Sight Bureau and electric wiring is installed according to General Electric Home Wiring recommendations.
