1939 New York World's Fair

What is This?

"I have a "Key to the New York Worlds Fair 1939" I have looked and looked for any info on it. I have seen literally hundreds of items and can not turn up anything. It is approximately 9" long and made of brass with a thermometer running up the length of the shaft, the key head is in the fashion of a 4 leaf clover as the keys teeth adorns the 1939 New York skyline. It is very heavy and in near mint condition.

I was told that these were not offered as souvenirs but were given to diplomats and world leaders who attended or sponsored the event and also to celebrities and politicians who were key figures attending the event. Please help me to learn a bit about it as we plan to put it in our store. We only sell the best of the best and like to know exactly what we are selling so as to answer questions accurately."
